These new amazing colours have given a new life to the centre!
One of the responses to the COVID-19 pandemic has been the creation of murals to raise the awareness of the virus and issues related to it such as the increase of violence, drug and alcohol abuse, while at the same time giving messages of hope and unity. Working with Mathare Roots, a partner in the Youth-led Emergency Response to COVID19, a mural was done on the side of the Mathare One Stop.
A central message of the mural is to stand up for your rights, as represented by the face of Bob Marley. Other images are warnings against police brutality, drug abuse, juxtaposed against the image of a woman wearing a mask, a service that the Emergency Response teams provide in addition to hand washing and COVID-19 information.
